As a unit stills photographer on a film set, one of my most important tools is my mirrorless camera. On productions I use a Sony A9ii, also a a7iii and a higher resolution a7rii camera system, which offers a range of advanced features and capabilities that make it ideal for capturing high-quality stills in a variety of settings.
One feature that is especially useful on a film set is the silent shooting mode. This allows me to capture photographs without making any noise, which can be critical when working on a set where sound is an important consideration.
Using the silent shooting mode is easy, all I have to do is switch the camera to "silent" mode in the menu settings and This disables the mechanical shutter, and instead uses an electronic shutter, which is completely silent. This is especially useful when I need to capture candid shots of actors and crew members, as it allows me to do so without disrupting the production.
The silent shooting mode is also great for capturing images during rehearsals and even during takes. It allows me to document these moments without drawing attention to myself or disrupting the actors' concentration.
Overall, the mirrorless silent shooting mode is a valuable asset on a film set, allowing me to capture high-quality stills without making any noise. Whether I'm documenting rehearsals, capturing candid moments, or working on promotional materials, this feature is an integral part of my workflow.
